Materia is a single player game that was developed for Sabancı University 3D Programming Course in 2009. The gameplay is designed to mimic the classical arcade game type, where the player constantly moves forward and try to avoid obstacles. However the game progresses on all surfaces unlike the 2D arcade counterpart.
Materia takes place before time, when the existence was a huge blob of energy. The player controls a particle, which travels to existence in a tunnel of elements. Each surface represents an element; fire, water, life and void. Every surface has it’s own obstacles and the more the particle stays on a surface, the more it drains the corresponding element. At each level, the player has to stay on a surface for sufficient time interval and at the end of the game, the mix of essences define the nature of the particle as it fully reaches to existence.
